All-wooden carved doll of woman with head extended downward, carved hair drawn from her face into an upswept gather at the back of head, light feathering around her face, downcast brown enamel eyes, strong nose, closed mouth, block-shaped torso which extends to knee level, defined waist, swivel lower legs with painted sandals, jointed arms, satin gown. Along with original detachable orb-shaped base. Structurally excellent, early retouch is beautifully achieved, finish on toes and shoes worn, costume frail. Continental, early 1800s.

Simon and Halbig original bisque head for Roullet et Decamps, the doll was marketed as "L'Intrepide Bebe", circa 1892. Very beautiful and early costume, bonnet, shoes and socks.
