Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 13. Comments: Kestner, circa 1885, the model is known as "A.T. Kestner" for its remarkable resemblance to the French bebe marked A.T. Standing upon a gold velvet-covered base is a bisque-head child with blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dramatically-painted lashes and brows, mauve-blushed eye shadow, closed mouth, accented lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau SGDG 4. Comments: Leopold Lambert with Jumeau bisque head, circa 1890, when wound, music plays and the little girl turns her head side-to-side, nods, and alternately lifts the little all-bisque doll that she is holding as though to kiss her, and then the basket filled with other toys including a paper mache nodding head donkey with tinier candy baskets and an ormolu birdcage with bird, as though to admire them. Value Points: model from Lambert's child series, this example is perfectly-preserved with choice bisque, gorgeous wig, original ivory cream dress with silk ribbon trim, matching bonnet with feathered trim, wonderful early toys, original paper tune label on underside, and functioning perfectly....more

Comments: Gaultier, circa 1865, few Gaultier model from this era bear the maker's initials; this and the uniqueness of the Asian model indicate a special commission doll, probably for the 1867 Paris International Exposition. 23" (58 cm.) x 21" x 19" opened. A wooden room, presented folded as a box, unhinges and opens to form into a large furnished English tea room, having original wall papers with dainty bird and floral design that is repeated on the free-standing counter front, and a lavish tapestry-textured floor paper to appear as though carpet. The back wall is fitted with12 niches flanking a center display with gilt-paper-trimmed mirror, and the shelves are abundantly-filled with wrapped packages and other assorted goodies. The tea room is furnished with a painted wooden counter, four wooden pedestal tables with fancy-cut tops decorated with decoupage, 8 matching chairs, and two matching jardinieres filled with flowers, each furnishing still tied to the box with original ribbons. A sign at the crest reads "Five O'Clock" in gilt letters. Excellent wonderfully-preserved condition. French, circa 1890, for the English market. An extremely rare presentation of the popular folding furnished rooms presented in the French market at this time; no other examples of "Five O'Clock" are known to exist....more

Condition: generally excellent. Marks: A 12 T. Comments: Andre Thuillier, circa 1884, from the early period of his firm's production; few dolls were created each year during this time. Value Points: an especially beautiful model of the rare bebe with exemplary bisque and painting, exquisite detail of lips, original body and body finish, and wearing fine antique rose silk dress with lace trim and ivory silk sash, rose silk bonnet and stockings, undergarments, leather shoes with brown silk pom-poms. Provenance: the doll is being sold from its original family owners, first belonging to Eugenia Josephine Huwer who was born in Luneville, France in 1883, then coming to America in 1886 at the age of 3 with her parents, Emily and Alois, and sister Jeannette. According to family notes: "they made their home in Queens, New York where her father worked as a glass blower. They all taught themselves English by reading the paper and figuring out the words. Eugenia met Peter Zaun at a dance and married. She worked as an embroiderer in New York. They had one daughter, Vivian, to whom she gave the doll" and it has continued in the family until now....more

Solid domed bisque socket head with sculpted hair, painted slate-blue downcast eyes, thick upper eyeliner, modeled eyelids, one-stroke tapered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with defined space and two tiny beaded teeth between the outlined lips, brunette mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, wearing antique chambray school dress, undergarments, shoes, stockings and woven bonnet with flowers and ribbons, carrying basket. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: K*R 112x 43, Comments: Kammer and Reinhardt, circa 1910, from the firm's art character reform series, the rare "x" variation which was offered with flocked sculpted hair or, as this model, with wig over sculpted hair.
